I have less than 24 hrs. For the first time, I will exhibit dolls and dioramas. Here are a few scenes I recently created. More videos and photos coming soon. Learning a new hobby such as playing the djembe drum can be relaxing and is an excellent way to practice selfcare.

I love horror and the suspense. This year because of the pandemic, the CDC recommended Trunk or Treat. Because of the risk of COVID 19, many people opted to go all the way out with their yard decor to provide a social distancing way to still enjoy the holiday. Check out the awesome videos from Facebook below.

We did not decorate or participate in any Halloween events but we did make a few purchases to prepare for next year and expand out horror doll collection. We also indulge in a sweet, scary movie called SPELL which starred one of my favorite actors Omari Hardwick. Check out our new Sinister doll by SPIRIT of HALLOWEEN STORE . Just as I suspected, our country is now feeling the spread of the virus and its aftermath. Numbers continue to rise and more children are now being diagnosed with the deadly virus. The Pandemic has forced many of us to reconnect with our hobbies and simple things that bring us joy. I have many hobbies such as doll collecting, and I also love old school hip hop. Since the pandemic, I have allowed myself to indulge in what I call petty doll collecting(inexpensive and fun) purchases. It started in May when I saw Biggie and then someone showed me a preorder for Salt & Pepa. It was really a done deal simply because I love the culture so much. Here is a nice flashback of some of their greatest hits. FYI I also have Ice Cube but i gave him to my son as a gift.
As they say, music can connect us and transport us to different places. It's powerful. During a time when so many are depressed and down remember a good song can change your mood almost instantly.
So whatever you love turn it up and dance like no one is watching! When we look back on this year, It will probably be the year many of us learned how to enjoy life and most of all not take anything for granted.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8924274855778532797.post-83295273866285122422020-05-18T02:10:00.005-07:002020-05-18T02:10:48.997-07:00An Interview with A Mardi Gras Injun:Like most true doll collectors, I am very picky about what goes into my collection. I am a historian and storyteller at heart, I am always looking for new information about history and cultures to share with my readers. In this case the information is not new, just new to me.

My fascination with the Mardi Gras Indians began about five years ago when I discovered a lady who happens to be a doll artist, but more importantly she is part of the Mardi Gras Injun masking culture. In my quest to acquire one of her dolls, I discovered her beautiful culture. She was not only a doll artist but a Big Queen of Creole Wild West. Creole Wild West is the name of her Mardi Gras Injun tribe and one of the oldest documented tribes in Mardi Gras culture. There are at least two dozen tribes. I am yet to see a list of these tribes, but then again maybe I'm not meant to. We first dove into the culture on a trip to NO about five years ago when we visited the BackStreet Museum .
An Interview with an Injun: Gerald French

This interview took place on a Monday morning in of January 2020.
.
Good Morning Mr. French do you mind if I record this conversation: Not at all. I understand.
Ok, lets jump right into this, then I have so much to ask.

Who are You: I'm Gerald French and I am a member of the Tuxedo band and I am a Freemason

What do you do: I am a musician full time now since my father passed. He was a member. I am now continuing his legacy. Our group is the oldest Jazz group in the world. It formed in 1910. The Original Tuxedo Band .

Is it Mardi Gras Indians or Injuns: It depends on who you ask. If we are in the streets you will hear Injun being used.

Can you give us some history on the Mardi Gras Indians: As you know we where not allowed to participate in organized Carnival but, we have always made something out of nothing. There are many of us who have Native American heritage. In fact, many of us are indigenous people but don't know it. We found out there where more free people of color in NOLA than there was white people. In NOLA we always cohabited until they started passing laws.
We have the skull and bones, the Babydolls so many secret societies because we could not participate in organized Carnival. The Indians do not exist because of Wild Bill. That is a myth.
We started dressing as Indians because we knew of the family linage We also know they took many of us in . Many ask why would these people do that.. well, that's because they where the same people. They came from Africa. Africans had been making trips back and forth here for hundreds of years. If you look at many of our suits they look like the Dogon or tribes in South America, We are the same people. We are just in different areas.

How long have the Mardi Gras Indians been around : Creole Wild West Charter I think goes back to 1860's. They are one of the oldest charters.

Tell me about your Tribe: I used to be with the Wild Magnolias so, I am not really with any Krew right now. I've been helping others sew.

Do you miss it? Yes, I do. I plan to get back to it.

When was the last time you masked: The last time I masked was in 2011 or 2012. I will send pictures so you can see my work. I miss it.
Being part of the culture has allowed me to do so much. We have traveled all over the world. I went to Denmark to teach about the culture. I brought my suits and we performed it was fantastic.

How much does it cost to create a suit: It is very expensive. It gets more expensive every year. Some guys spend $25,000-$30,000 on a suit.

What is the most you ever spent: About $12,000, the last suit I wore.

That is a lot of money. What happens to the suites afterward:Yes, the feathers are expensive they may cost $400 or $500 a pound and you only get about 70 and we do not reuse the feathers you must get fresh feathers every year. Today they typically reuse the beads today ,but long ago only once.

How do you feel about others appropriating or profiting off your culture. I don't feel its right and it is being done a lot.

Who is someone you admire? Big Chief Howard Miller from Creole Wild West and Bo Dollis there are so many. I have so much respect for the older guys they masked for 50 years, created costumes every year. You have to respect that.

You come from a long linage of musicians. The Wild Magnolias were the first Mardi Gras tribe to record an album is that correct: Yes, my father was part of that.

What is your favorite song: I love how Bo Dolis sang Golden Crown. I also love How Da Dey Emy dad was on that track, so it is very dear to me. My father played bass.

What could others do to help the culture: Connect with a tribe and donate.

The Pandemic Hits New Orleans

This year I anticipated Super Sunday and what would have been my first time seeing the Indians in person. Super Sunday is a select day that the Mardi Gras Indians come out and show out for the community. They start in the park and proceed on a specific route. Along the way, community and tourist are able to watch and experience first hand the energy and excitement of each tribe. Through song and dance they convey secret codes and folktales. For more information about this unique cultural event, check out NewOrleans.com Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, It and many other wonderful events were cancelled.
Because I love the culture so much, I wanted to find some item that I could use to represent them in my collection. Prior to the event I was able to find a designer that creates handmade dolls in the likeliness of the Mardi Gras Indians. She had several but, this one really spoke to me. I love the shades of purple, blues and turquoise colors and his beautiful butterfly staff.
It was a very big disappointment that Super Sunday was cancelled this year. This makes me even more excited to see what the people of New Orleans have planned for next year. Those who mask do a wonderful job of beading and sewing stories about what is going on in the world. Their suits tell even the saddest stories in a beautiful way. I am so honored to have had a chance to have a conversation with Mr. French and learn more about their history. Next year, If it is Gods will.. I will be there!
It's not every day that one gets to see a cannon fired. Not once, but three times. I can tell you it is extremely noisy. I had a chance to attend The Voices of South Texas Historical Event in Corpus Christi, Texas. There were military reenactors from every war ever fought in the U.S., food, information booths and plenty of history buffs. This was the perfect opportunity to do a photo-shoot with my Madame Alexander Buffalo Soldier. He is limited edition, a low number, and was gifted to my son. I had a great time photographing him.
Now is the time to get those seeds in the ground! For many, Feb and March are the planting seasons. Spring and Summer will be here soon and if you sow now you can reap the benefits later. There is nothing like fresh fruit and vegetables. The doll sells for about $40 dollars at Target and is possible. She is also able to wear American Girl doll clothes. Here hair is thick and curly and she comes with a chapter book. She is my pick for a substitute doll for Blair, the GOTY 2019.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8924274855778532797.post-33544006241382566652019-02-21T05:54:00.000-08:002019-02-21T15:10:40.347-08:00 Soul Train & Barbie Fashionista #105, She's a Bad Mama Jama

According to Biography.com, Soul Train debuted August 17, 1970. It was the hippest dance trip in town for over 30 years and was on air till 2006. The Train was created by Don Cornelius. It started in Chicago as a local show, traveled to California and ended up on every TV set in Black Americas home.

Soul Train showcased up and coming and the hottest soul and funk acts in the nation, Among the many guest were people like James Brown and Gladys Knight.

There were also superstars in the making in the audience dancing, people like Jody Watley from Shalamar or Damita Jo Freeman, who eventually became a famous choreographer to the stars.

The dancers from Soul Train where considered celebrities and trend setters. They embodied the look of the 70's. Big Afros, bell bottoms and platforms where often the look, not only for females but, the guys as well.It was a a time of black pride and and the rise of the Black beauty Industry. Soul Train was the longest running syndicated dance show in the country.

This month on BET Catch the story of Soul Train, American Soul. Check out the preview here.

I recently purchased a Barbie who embodied the 70's Soul Train dancers. Fashionista#105 is Afrolicous! She has big hair, hoop earrings and the curves to match. She could definitely be a Soul Train dancer.

In 2011, I started seeing Barbies with textured hair. Consumers started customizing their Barbies hair. At the time the pipe cleaner method was used to add texture and a natural look to black fashion dolls. Mattel finally decided to cash in on this and created a gorgeous fashionista, #105. Fashionista #105 is the best natural hair doll that I've seen. Her hair feels and looks real.Take a look at this review. The doll is priced less than $8.00 at Walmart. The only set back is, the doll has a stiff body. Her curves are to die for and it would be great if this doll could pose and move. If your listening Mattel we need a curvy, articulated body...ASAP!

I am happy to announce the arrival of my first official ReBORN. She arrived on an 18 in body. She was then given a body swap with a 22 in soft body. Her new body was purchased from Bountiful Babies and came with easy todo instructions. I am very happy with her now. I may later get her hair rerooted for more fullness. This will be an ongoing photo album.
Since this is the month of Horror( October), what better time to explore and discuss great horror movies that focus on haunted dolls. I'm feeling a spin off blog coming real soon as I discovered rather quickly, there are dozens of movies with haunted dolls.
This is Part II of my Horror Doll post. One such that comes to mind is the Classic Annabelle that debuted a few years ago. This movie was such a hit and was the prelude to the movie The Conjuring. It was at this time, while in the movie, with my heart fluttering in the theater that I decided most horror movies today where just a tad bit to real for me... Yeah.. I don't think this is fun anymore.
Earlier this year, I had a chance to see some great horror collectibles at a local comic book store. They had some wonderful fan favorites such as The Bride of Chucky. I don't have Annabelle but, would love to add her to my list... This is actually a great price for this doll and I'm thinking I may pay them a visit today to see if she's still there! Check out Ebay for auctions for your very own Annabella.

But, what exactly is it that makes some people so afraid of dolls?
So as promised, lets get down to it. What makes them so creepy to some people and totally irresistible to others like myself? Many people believe dolls can hold(possess) spirits or demons of people. Warning this Clip has Violence
Doll collectors have long been considered strange or creepy people. Many people believe dolls to be haunted and possessed by spirits. I plan to do some research on this topic and explore it more in weeks to come. I couldn't help but to think of the classic Twilight Zone Episode of Talking Tina. This was my inspiration for Halloween decor this year. Do you remember this classic episode?

Last year I decided to create my own Horror dolls. I was inspired by some of the horror babies I saw on Pinterest and Ebay. This is a great way to recycle old dolls and to add some fun to your Halloween decor this year. This project was completed in one day and I did this as a workshop with a few friends.
It was used to gage how children felt about race. In this study you are able to see Black children and how they felt about themselves. If we have not learned anything from that study we hopefully learned the importance of providing positive words and environments for children of color to play. Most importantly, I think we learned the role that Black dolls can play in a child's life and how they grow to feel about themselves.
I recently helped to support a Kickstarter campaign to produce a doll that not only is beautiful but provides positive words to encourage children's self esteem development. The doll recites 20 positive phrases to help reinforce their self esteem.
The first doll in the Brains and Beauty Collection is Malia, She is a beautiful 18in doll that gives American Girl a run for their money. Check out the features and tell me if you agree. With a wonderful price tag of $85 and with the right marketing this doll should be a hit!
I hope you had a chance to experience Luciana first hand January 1st in American Girl Stores. The weather kept a lot of fans at home. Me being the curious one and always wanting to experience the AG madness I trekked my way out in 30 degree weather and picked up a few goodies for myself.
Whenever AG does a doll release they give out the coolest items in the store... Luciana Vegas debut was no different. I was able to snag a very cool tee and a few Phases of the Moon Trackers.
You've seen the YouTube videos and the craze around the world for the first of its kind animated doll. What is your take on the doll? Please share what you like and dislike about Luvebella. If you haven't purchased her yet...why not? On a scale of 1-10. I give her an 8 because I am blown away by what this doll can do. I am not so crazy about her hair or cheap looking clothing. I think this doll has much more potential for improvement or it be lots of fun to continue customizing her as some of my fellow doll collectors have decided to do. Take a look at me and my first encounter with baby Carter Luvabella!
Ok so this is a late post but, you still have time to create and enjoy a fun centerpiece using your doll collection. Since Kwanzaa has already kicked off you have even more reason to create your own fun centerpiece for tables, tea parties or as gifts. Using a glue gun, hot glue, coat hangers, ornaments, embellishments and plate chargers, I created bright and colorful floating doll centerpieces. Drop your thoughts below and subscribe for more great projects! Happy Kwanzaa!

I guess the question is, why am I so mad. The GOTY 2018 girl was leaked months ago all over social media and still after seeing the reveal the other day on GMA I felt some kind of way. I had to examine why I was angry when I saw Luciana come out of the sky in an astronaut uniform as little black girls cheered her on, bright eyed and bushy tailed. I could literally feel steam coming from my nose. It was because American Girl took me back to a dark space, a space I had been before as a young black girl growing up in the 80s. This was a space where diversity was limited and the idea of a little black girl even being in a story book was just a dream. In fact, I do not recall any story book from childhood to our reading list in high school that included a little black girl. I only remember Huck Fin and To Kill a Mockingbird. No stories of black princess, and certainly of little black girls.

In 1993, American Girl released Addy Walker and not only did little black girls now have a beautiful doll that looked like them but they also had the accessories even a story book of a brave little black girl. Addy was popular amongst white parents who were excited to share her story about slavery and bravery with their daughters, but as one collector stated" As realistic as Addy's collection is they still failed to tell the brutal truths about slavery. After many years of harassment Mattel finally released a few more AA dolls. First Ceclie then Melody. If you blinked you missed Cecile she was archived within 3 years. Melody's Civil Rights based story line was a success again with many collectors especially since Dr. King is now considered a hero in our history books.

I think Mattel thought that it had succeeded in quieting down Black American mothers who wanted to see another doll other than a stereotype, a slave, but as time approached for the 2017 GOTY to be released., There where still complaints. None of the previous GOTY dolls where AA.So, Mattel decided to silence the complainers and release Gabrielle McBride. Finally, an African American GOTY, right. Well following the success of Lea and Grace's collection many parents and myself anticipated a collection that would be out of this world, instead we got little black girl in the hood who has a collection that you can count on one hand. So, the complaints rolled in not only from Black mothers but from mothers of all colors who refuse to buy a doll that was identical to one already released, with a bed that almost identical to a previous GOTY and a dance bar that looked like they simply spray painted something from Isabella's collection. Was Gabbie to poor to have the extravagant collection other GOTY's have had? Can AG not visualize little black girls as anything other than a slave or entertainment for others? Why could Gabbie not have a collection to inspire all girls and especially little black girls about careers and defying stereotypes?

So this is where I am right now the same place I was in school, invisible. In school many little black girls are there but they are invisible to the teachers. Never encouraged to play the lead role in a play, never asked if they are interested in learning how to play tennis or golf, never asked attend any sleep overs because they are ignored and invisible to many. Never playing the role of a princess in a story book, till Disney decided to create Tiana. Never encouraged to join the UIL spelling or social studies teams because they are invisible.

I was advised by an elder to boycott and not to purchase their dolls if they don't represent me. I am at a turning point as a collector because I have been rubbed the wrong way but have the power to decide where and with who I spend my money. Today, I will write a letter to AG and I will share my thoughts and why they have did Black mothers and all little girls a disservice by putting little black girls in boxes and then ignoring them. AG took the time to research Lucianas collection. I wonder how much time was taken to research Gabbies collection and her story about a community center in the hood. I wonder if they had a research team and I wonder if black mothers decided to boycott AG would they care and would it make a difference in their sales. After all, AG's fan base was white mothers and daughters. They had no desire to appeal to a diverse population and many collectors took pride in the idea that they where collecting and purchasing dolls that others could not afford. Of course today we know that many parents of color do spend lots of money with AG
.
Let me hear from you. Are you feeling some kinda way since Luciana's release? If so, why? Would you consider boycotting AG or writing a letter? I'm encouraging all moms black and white to write and encourage diversity amongst their character roles.
Please send your letters here and let them know how you feel.
#2 American Girl Melody and Her Recording Studio

This item I purchased as a gift for myself in celebration of my fathers passing. Every year during this time I allow myself to make a big doll purchase in honor of my father. This year I decided to do an AG Haul .. all month long. This included visiting the POP UP STORE @THE DOMAIN IN AUSTIN, TEXAS. I purchased Melody and a Truly Me doll there. What a wonderful experience hanging out around other doll enthusiast. I also got to meet some wonderful AG staff such as Leslie, who I enjoy conversing with every time I frequent the store which is scheduled to be open till January of 2018.

Melody's recording studio was on my list and decided to purchase this item in person at the store in Houston, TX. The studio has so many sentimental values to me.. The studio plays the music to THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE. Which is one of my favorite gospel hymns I sang as a child. In fact we sung this song at the last EASTER PROGRAM I PARTICIPATED IN, this was in the Spring of 1990. Check out the studio below and see why I could not resist adding it to my collection at a whopping $250.

#1 Luvabella Baby

This doll was dubbed one of the hottest Christmas toys for 2017. She is wanted all over the world in places like Italy and France. We are so lucky to have many local stores that sell her here.

I must admit I am not a big buyer of animated type toys.. I wasn't crazy about Baby Alive... but after watching the promo video for the Luvabella Babies.. I had to add her to my collection. I am beyond blown away by this doll. Her laugh, the way she moves her mouth and the many phrases are the reason I decided this doll was worth the $100 plus dollar price tag.. If your lucky like me, I found this doll for $77 new at my local Walmart!!! So she will be under my tree for me this Christmas! I think this is the best doll purchase of the year for me! Check out this great video that shows what she can do.

Did you notice anyone missing? Maybe not... yet . For the past two years, there have been very strong talk about Addy retiring.. Some of the claims even coming from those who work for AG. Those of us who love Addy have been living on pins and needles for the past two years.. watching her slowly disappear from the catalog and wondering are they telling us the truth. A petition was even created and signed by many of us who feel Addy's story is a necessary part of American History. Well about a month ago. I was able to get some inside information about Addy and if and when she is retiring .. and of course I feel I should share it with you all...
Well the key word is retire. Everytime I call AG and ask them if Addy is going to be retired, they tell me NO. That appeases me for a little bit then a few months later we hear another rumor.
This is what I learned.... American Girl does not typically retire a doll what they do is archive a doll....so wording is important when asking a question. That means they can take the doll off the shelf and not sell or produce her ..but they always have the option of bringing her back. We recently saw this with Samantha. BUT DOESN"T RETIRING MEAN YOU STILL HAVE AN OPTION TO COME OUT OF RETIREMENT?
As far as Addy is concerned, the plan is to only sell her now in the Flagship stores ONLY.. ( the big stores that where first opened.. Chicago, New York .. I think there are only 5 Flagship stores). This means you will not be able to walk into an AG store in Houston and find Addy on the shelf .. you will have to order her via catalog or go to a Flagship store...
With that being said.. I'm not happy at all. How can a doll sell if she is not available or on the shelf. How can a doll sell if they are not marketing and adding to her accessory line. From my understanding the BEforever line does not sell as much as the Truly Me dolls. It could be... Many of us will always have a love for Addy and items from the original dolls... simply because their is a direct connection to our childhood growing up. So, my advice would be to continue to add to your collection before we wake up and she is archived.... and items are then very expensive.
I hope I was able to clarify somethings concerning Addy retiring. More importantly, I hope you have a better understanding next time you walk into an AG store and she is not there! Keep supporting Addy and join our Facebook Group, American Girl Addy Collectors.
I think I just acquired the most unique doll in my collection. I noticed the dolls about a month ago while researching voodoo dolls on Ebay. Since learning I am a descendant from the Benin and Togo area of Africa I have been researching about their religion and trying to understand it more. I have also learned that my line of work has exposed me to homes where families may openly practice Voodoo or Santeria..
Much to my surprise, I came across this very creepy yet, familiar looking doll set. At first I could not put my finger on it but, after reading the caption .. I quickly remember this 90s Horror flick that eventually became a Urban Hit and today.. considered a horror classic.. produced by non other than Spike Lee the 90s horror flick TALES FROM THE HOOD... WAS A CREEPY RENDITION OF TALES FROM THE CREEP..
And Me, Yes Me, I have just acquired this awesome doll set! I was so luck to run across an OOAK set of slave Voodoo dolls from the popular film.
I watched this listing for a month, and thought about how I could integrate it into my collection of black dolls. I have so many plans to exhibit these dolls and revisit this horror classic with old friends and young people who may have never seen the film. Take a look at the clip from the classic scene and then a look at my expected dolls. Please let me know what you think about the artists likeliness of the dolls. As we quickly approach Halloween.. this is an excellent horror film that explores, politics, police brutality, domestic violence and history.. look for Tales from the Hood on Film at Amazon!
Addy accompanied me for what would be her first official road trip and the beginning of new adventures for her and I. Back home, or shall I say in cyberspace awaited about 80 adult collectors who where eager to see where Addy was headed. After 8 hours of swamps and bridges high enough to make you think you where flying, we arrived safely in NOLA. Our first destination being the Everygreen Plantation in NOLA. Recognized as the most intact slave plantation in the south and the site where many scenes from the movie Django where filmed. We where more than excited to arrive. Its important to note that, everyone in the car was either a fan of the movie or a die hard history buff .We anticipated this would be a very fun road trip.
We arrived in NOLA about 9 am.. Traveled about ten minutes out from the plantation and found a small Cajun restaurant and decided we would try some gumbo, before the tour started at 11 am. Then we would have adequate time to check into our rooms at the Historic Street Car Inn.
Upon arrival at the plantation, we enjoyed the artifacts at the information building and chatting with the staff.
The Evergreen Plantation is known for its sugarcane and to this day, still a working plantation.. Many movies have been filmed there, and at the time they where filming the remake of Roots. The plantation tour is about 2 hours long. It was a guided tour with guides who are native to the area and have very deep roots and ties to the land. We where able to take photos throughout the grounds but not inside the home because it was currently a movie set. Inside the home, we lavished at the simple elegance of the décor and where amused by the stories. We first toured the area of the slave owners.. reliving their day to day life and then of course, saved the most intriguing for last. We eagerly walked through the gate that stood as a reminder of separation from two different people and two different worlds. Inside the gates there was an instant feeling of heaviness. We could feel it under the large oak trees that framed the path so perfectly. Please look at the 22 slave cabins lined up, identical, preserved and still standing. People walked around in awe. This was without a doubt the attraction of the entire plantation and tour. There was a quietness as people moved around slowly taking in every visual detail of how African Americans lived during slavery.
I would certainly say this was a very educational and enjoyable tour. Along side getting a chance to experience NOLA ... its food, people and culture, I can say we will be returning!
Since then I have been very busy but, wanted to share and document Addy's visit.

Nothing is more relaxing than finding a space that you enjoy and taking time to just relax. For me being around water does just that. I also enjoy photographing my dolls. Addy is a perfect model and the photos always seem to be effortless. Here she is at her first summer photo shoot at Emerald Beach. For exclusive pictures of her photoshoot click here. Emerald Beach is located in Corpus Christi, Texas. She is modeling Julies swimsuit in a bright yellow. You can tell Addy really had a great time reflecting and relaxing. Do you have a special place or hobby that helps you relax? A short weekend trip can do wonders.
During our short weekend trip to Corpus we enjoyed the peacefulness of the beach, and the people of Corpus. In the past two weeks Corpus Christi was hit very hard by Hurricane Harvey. There are large clean up efforts in the coastal area going on currently. We are hoping that the area can recover and people can start enjoying the beaches in the areas again soon. Check out this local project that helps keep the beaches clean.
We started at her beautiful house that is full of ethnic and cultural artifacts from all over the world. Then we headed out for a hike with our cameras and Kendall. Zilker Botanical Garden is full of Asian inspired gardens and a beautiful Zen Garden. My friend who came to walk was soon bitten by the doll bug and was very active in getting the perfect shot. She did great until she got a little to bold towards the end and Kendall collapsed head first in a murky mini tank full of minnows and algae. After gasping, and my heart palpitating I regrouped and we headed out. This park is located within Zilker Park in Austin Tx! Today was beautiful and the garden was full! I think we got a lot of great photos take a look and tell me which is your favorite shot!
No Problem: The benifits of doing doll Laundry After a long hot photoshoot with Kendall from AG, I did a hand wash on her clothing and a bubble bath on her body! I used a gentle shampoo and conditioner. NOTE: I didn't dare take her hair down. Afterwards, she was sent outside to dry flat on a fluffy towel! I used Purex Brand wash booster to make her dolly clothing smell super sweet and fresh! I will be doing a light iron on her tee and skirt! Many collectors spend lots of money on additional outfits for their dolls and would also like to keep the original clothing nice and free from odor. You can do this by caring for the doll and their clothing on a routine basis. Its important to always note care instructions and be aware of the types of laundry powder you are using on the clothing. You do not want to pick a detergent that has a bleach or is so harsh it would fade the clothing.
Pick one day out the month to do doll laundry. It can be very relaxing to wash, air dry, fold or hang. Lastly, put clothing into a labeled zip lock bag with a downy dryer sheet! Pick a day that you can enjoy the benefits of ironing ... I found myself feeling very relaxed and at ease about two weeks ago while taking my time to iron my business attire. It was at this point I thought hmmmm.. instead of ironing as I go, why not pick a day out the week (Sunday is great) and take 45 min at least and iron. 45 min, a little wine and maybe some jazz sounds real good if you cant get to a spa! So enjoy one of the perks of being a dolly collector/parent iron your way to a more tranquil life.
In a good way. After finding out TRU would be carrying AG just yesturday I was bent on being there to witness the craziness and purchase myself a doll. As of now they only have Wellie Wishers but they will be getting the Truely Me dolls soon. I was so happy to find the dolls but missed the special excitement from the AG stores. Since my dolls where not even on the shelf I really felt neglected lol. I will save a special trip... a lunch for myself at the AG store to purchase Melody and her studio! I want the total experience! Looks like me and the TRU crew will become good friends..
I can honestly say I have no excuse other than I had no desire to blog or share my life, or my dolls with anyone . In fact, I even contemplated shutting my blog down..making it disappear into cyberspace. I'm happy, I didn't .
So what have I been doing, well just trying to heal. Imagine trying to enjoy the very thing that reminds you of the person who is no longer there.I can not think of my dolls, and not think of my father after all, he was the person who spoiled me and purchase my dolls for me as a kid. So he has been a big part of my life in many ways. I also made some very pricy purchases these past few years often exceeding my doll budget on a monthly basis. I've gotten to know some very nice doll collectors on line, expanded my knowledge about vintage and antique dolls and had the wonderful opportunity to get a custom made doll from a very celebrated and talented doll artist. So to make a long story short, I have lots of beautiful pictures along life stories and lessons to tell.
I recently started a new project this last year in which I am now traveling with Addy Walker and documenting our journey via pictures, video on Instagram, and Facebook. So please make sure you stop by and visit, leave a message and hopefully be inspired. I will be sharing my dolls and photos or the next few weeks.

My favorite doll in my collection as of now is Matoka. After watching her for 15 years and wishing for her, I was able to purchase her for a remarkable price for my father's anniversary. As most of you may know she is from the 2005 Annette Himstedt Collection. Here she is dressed as a fairy for Halloween.
